California TEU fee
As published in The Shipping Digest on August 18,2008, the California Senate approved an infrastructure and environmental mitigation bill that will levy a $30-per-TEU charge on containers moving through the ports of Los Angeles, Long Beach and Oakland. The state assembly has previously approved the legislation. It must now wait and see if it is signed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. The fees are expected to generate about $400 million a year in revenue to be equally split among intermodal rail-related projects and environmental mitigation for trade-related projects.
