| Political Unrest in Thailand |
There is a declared state of emergency in Bangkok. There have been violent clashes between anti-government protesters and pro-government supporters. We would below like to outline how the above situation and the resulting actions of the State Enterprise Unions are having on our industry. The labor unions have not called a full-scale strike. Bangkok Port (Klong Toey) is currently not accepting any containers this due to crane operators going on strike so as such containers cannot be loaded/unloaded to/from the vessels. However, containers that have already been unloaded from the vessel/s are being customs cleared ok and LCL shipments are also being de-vanned by the co-loaders at the port. It is however understood, but not confirmed, that Bangkok Port will again be fully operational tomorrow. Private Ports in Bangkok such as BMT (Bangkok Multimodern Terminal) and TPT (Thai Prosperity Terminal) along with the Lad Krabang I.C.D are at this time all operating normally. Laem Chabang Port and other ports in Thailand are also currently still operating normally. So far no disruption has been caused to airfreight shipments either to or from Bangkok, although there have been some flight cancellations to/from both Phuket and Krabi airports but these are primarily tourist areas as opposed to commercial. At this time it is unclear if further strike action that is being called for by State Enterprise Unions will be adhered to by their members, but we will of course keep you updated if the situation changes.
