President Trump issued an Executive Order (EO) on March 24, 2025, citing a continued national emergency regarding Venezuela and the Maduro regime’s actions. Specifically, the continued support and the threat posed by the Tren De Aragua gang. The EO mandates that starting April 2, 2025, a 25% tariff may be imposed on all goods imported from countries that import Venezuelan oil, whether directly or indirectly.
The Secretary of State, in consultation with other officials, will determine which countries will face these tariffs. These tariffs aim to further pressure the Venezuelan government and address what the EO describes as its destabilizing activities and support for illicit actions. The EO also outlines the administration and enforcement of these tariffs, as well as reporting and review processes.
The full EO may be found here.
