CBP Commercial Traffic Update at Detroit Windsor Tunnel

As a result of the traffic issues created by the “Freedom Convoy” blocking commercial traffic from crossing the Ambassador Bridge, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) at the Port of Detroit allowed “PAPS” (Formal Entry) shipments to be diverted to the Detroit Windsor Tunnel for processing. “This diversion, while necessary, created significant system, procedural and examination challenges for the trade, stakeholders and CBP to overcome,” the agency said.

At the start of Feb. 14, the Ambassador Bridge reopened with both inbound and outbound traffic flowing freely. This opening allows commercial traffic to return to normal processing and for the challenges incurred at the Detroit Windsor Tunnel to be eliminated.

That said, starting at 8 a.m. ET on Feb. 16, the Detroit Windsor Tunnel will no longer accept “PAPS” (Formal Entry) shipments and will return to normal processing of very limited commercial traffic of “Brass” and “Informal” Entries, CBP said.
